DENTON, Texas (KNTU) Guyer is known for its strong running game, a brand of football that’s rare in the modern spread offenses of today’s high school teams.

Sophomore Noah Cain tallied 202 yards on the ground, part of a 475 team rushing yard performance from the Wildcats that helped them beat the Lake Ridge Eagles 55-35 on Friday, August 26.

Guyer’s experienced defense gave Lake Ridge fits throughout the night, stifling a team that went 15-0 last season before losing the 5A state championship game to George Ranch.

The inter-conference game wasn’t unique to 6A Guyer, who has a history of scheduling tough non-district opponents. The Wildcats previously scheduled 5A state runner-up Ennis during the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

Guyer returns to action on September 2 when the team travels to DeSoto to face the Wildcats’ former starting quarterback Shawn Robinson who now leads the Eagles.
