JUPITER, Fla. (AP) Police said golf great Tiger Woods was arrested on a DUI charge in Florida on Monday, May 29.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office posted on its website that Woods was booked into a county jail around 7:00 a.m. on a charge under a Driving Under the Influence statute.
Jail records showed Woods was arrested by police in Jupiter. He was released just before 11:00 a.m. on his own recognizance.
Woods later said an unexpected reaction to prescription medicine led to his arrest.
The 14-time major champion said in a statement that alcohol wasn’t involved. Woods said he didn’t realize the mix of medications affected him that strongly.
He also said he understood the severity of what he did and takes full responsibility.
Woods had a fourth back surgery on April 20. He wrote in an update on his website a week earlier that the fusion surgery gave him instant relief from pain and that he hasn’t felt this good in years.
