UNT Student Application

Any student enrolled in classes at the University of North Texas may apply to work at KNTU.

  • Some students, such as those in the Department of Media Arts (MRTS or CBCM majors) or the Mayborn School of Journalism may earn practicum course credit or internship course credit, respectively, for their work at KNTU; students in other majors throughout the university may be able to work with their academic advisors to also receive some form of credit toward their degrees.

Please fill out the form below to indicate which volunteer / practicum / internship position(s) you are interested in, and how we can contact you (email and phone). We’ll review your application and contact you to set up an interview and/or audition. Please fill out the form completely — including your full name — and you could soon be on your way to helping us entertain and/or inform listeners across North Texas on 88.1 HD1 FM (88.1 indie) / 88.1 HD2 FM (KNTU Jazz) and around the world on 881indie.com, kntu.com, and/or northtexasstreamingnetwork.com.

After submitting your application, you are encouraged to come by KNTU’s offices (RTFP 273 – 276) to verify receipt of your application and further express your interest in becoming part of the KNTU team.

    Note to all applicants:

KNTU is an extracurricular activity open to all students at the University of North Texas. While some students may receive practicum or internship credit for their work at KNTU, volunteer / practicum or internship positions at KNTU are NOT labs connected with any course. In other words, no student will be placed in a KNTU position simply because they want to register for a practicum or internship course.

Rather, all students who apply for a volunteer / practicum or internship position may be required to audition for that position, and, in some cases, take a test to demonstrate their knowledge of basic background information necessary to perform tasks in certain departments (i.e., knowledge of current events for the news department).

KNTU is a very visible representative of the University of North Texas. While continuing to provide an industry standard learning environment for students who are starting out in broadcasting, KNTU's mission also includes providing listeners throughout Dallas/Fort Worth with the highest level of programming possible from a professionally run student radio station. This is similar to other highly visible UNT activities, such as the Jazz Studies lab bands and intercollegiate sports, in that students who participate in those activities must try out and demonstrate their ability to perform at an acceptable level.

By checking the boxes below and submitting this application, you agree to the following:

To perform the duties required for the volunteer / practicum or internship position(s) for which you've applied.

You understand the volunteer / practicum or internship position(s) will run from the first day of the semester through the last day of final exams. (When applying for Summer -- UNT has several sessions listed, but KNTU considers the dates for the 10W session as Summer.)

You agree to become familiar with and comply with the policies and procedures of KNTU.

You understand that if you don't show up for your scheduled shift (or find a trained substitute) and complete your scheduled work on time, you may be removed from the KNTU volunteer / practicum or internship staff immediately, even if this means failing the associated practicum or internship.
